THE KIR ROYALE
The USA doesn’t have dibs on fireworks and freedom in July
French National Day, or Bastille Day, commemorates the storming of the Bastille marking the beginning of the French Revolution on July 14th, 1789. SPEC is pleased to join in the celebration of Bastille Day with the Kir Royale.
A popular French cocktail made with white wine or champagne and a ripple of crème de cassis, the Kir is named after Felix Kir (1876 – 1968). Felix Kir was mayor of Dijon in Burgundy and used his position to popularize the drink by offering it at receptions to visitors from around the world. Dijon happened to be the leading producer of crème de cassis. Mayor Kir promoted the drink, and his region’s products, during World War Two.
Ingredients: crème de cassis, Champagne, fresh raspberries
